Delia Horn, a native of Shrewsbury, Vt., is one of 106 students graduating this Sunday from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington. Words from her mother will likely be on her mind that day. “She said, ‘I cannot find primary care,'” Horn told New England Cable News Thursday.

Horn said her family in rural Vermont has struggled with finding doctors close to home, sometimes even waiting months for appointments. After her residency, Horn said she expects to pursue a career as a pediatrician, hopefully in her home state. “I grew up in Vermont as a pediatric patient, and having to drive over an hour each way to a pediatrician,” Horn remembered. “It will be my goal to serve a community in need. They do see a shortage of doctors.”
